Love Yourself

Cue Justin Bieber song. Kidding. No, this post isn’t about the Biebs. At our local cafe, I had an in depth conversation with my younger sister about how to love yourself. Wise beyond her years, with a deeper understanding about life than most, she gave me some sound advise.

We have heard the saying “treat others how you want to be treated.” I can’t speak for all but I can certainly speak for myself when I say that I treat others better than I treat myself. I find it easier to look for positives within other people than my own. I am my worst enemy when it comes to self judgement. A trait of a true perfectionist.

Going through significant changes in my life recently, a plethora of thoughtful insight had come into light. How can I love others before loving myself? This isn’t coming from a narcissistic point of view. Self love is having a regard for one’s own happiness. I have completely lost myself within the last few years and have put other people before me.

Back to scene one at our local cafe. I quote my sister: “We should learn to treat ourselves how we treat others.” This will stay with me for a very long time. I am on the path of discovering what it means to love yourself.
